teaching
The first portion of my class is based on improvisation. Through this free-flow movement method I direct the focus to feel one’s own body and connect to its softness, shapelessness and grounding. Afterwards we move through more specific tasks designed to take a step from simply being to performing. I ask to move proudly, with an open chest, bordering a sense of arrogance. Or to imagine yourself inhabiting a body of an infant, having yet to discover how to move efficiently. To end my class, I teach a fragment of what I am currently busy with in my own creative practice.
I notice that finding articulation when translating my movement to others enriches my understanding of the core ideas I work with.
Teaching does and will always inform my artistry.
